Woman finds discarded COVID-19 test samples in Las Vegas park

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas woman says she found about 100 COVID-19 test samples along with personal information inside a bag in a dumpster at a local park.

Susan Jerrems tells 8 News Now with the COVID samples, the bag included papers with personal information such as addresses, phone numbers and social security numbers.

“I found this at Lorenzi Park, it was above the trash bags,” she said.

She says her big worry was that the personal information would end up in the wrong hands.

“I took them out of the dumpster and took them with me,” she added.

8 News Now attempted to determine where the tests were carried out and called out the names on the documents, only to find that the people listed did not match the numbers or addresses.

The defendants say they never had any tests done on the date indicated.

The lab listed for testing was addressed to Gene Matrix Labs in Georgia. Attempts to contact the lab were unsuccessful as the number provided did not work.

As Jerrems wonders what could have happened with the paperwork, more questions arise about where they came from and why.

“Now I just have to figure out what to do with it,” added Jerrems.

The pile of tests and documents discovered were turned over to the city’s parks department.

A city spokesperson told 8 News Now that the tests and documents are in a safe place.

The Nevada attorney general’s office said it was looking into the matter to see if there were any complaints about the company listed in the tests as well.
