Shooting fears trigger chaos
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who police say threw a rock at a Macy’s window inside the Fashion Show mall on the Las Vegas Strip has sparked widespread panic over fears of a shooting.
Wednesday afternoon’s incident marked the second time in days that a smashed window has been mistaken for gunfire.
James Stuckey is facing charges related to Wednesday afternoon’s incident, records show.
Officers were called to the store to a report of a person breaking a front window and fighting with security guards, police said. Officers arrested Stuckey several minutes later near the mall, they said.
Police say Stuckey threw a “large rock” at a glass door, smashing it. A security guard then thought he saw Stuckey pointing a gun at him. A firearm was never found.
Stuckey faces charges of destroying property, making a false statement to a public officer and resisting arrest.
In an unrelated incident last Saturday, a man is accused of throwing rocks at the MGM Grand hotel, which was also mistaken for gunfire and causing panic on the Strip.
