North Las Vegas police are investigating a fatal shooting of a man Thursday night in a park.
A man in his twenties was shot and killed around 5:10 pm in a parking lot on the east side of Craig Ranch Regional Park, 628 W. Craig Road, North Las Vegas police said. He was taken to the university medical center, where he died, police said.
“It’s something we never want to see,” North Las Vegas Police spokesman Aaron Patty told media on the spot.
The shooting did not appear to be random, police said, but no further information was immediately available on the description or number of possible perpetrators.
There were a few people in the area at the time, Patty said. Police are asking members of the public to contact if they have any information relating to the shooting.
âSometimes it’s this piece that is that nugget we needed to get further into the matter and allow us to find the suspect,â said Patty.
Detectives and crime scene analysts were on site Thursday evening. A crime scene analyst put yellow evidence markers on the parking lot sidewalk and photographed the area.
A family pushed strollers past the park stage on Thursday night, and children played basketball and skateboarded in other unaffected areas of the approximately 170-acre park.
Anyone with information can call North Las Vegas Police at 702-633-9111 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 to remain anonymous.
The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after his family is notified.
The homicide marks North Las Vegas Police’s 16th investigation this year.
