Grand jury indicts man on Tuesday
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A man is charged with the murder of a Las Vegas hotel security guard after pushing him to the ground in an incident that went unreported until a grand jury indicted him. suspicious on Tuesday.
Pedro Lizano, 35, faces a murder charge in the death of Randall Lyons, 67, according to records reviewed by 8 News Now investigators.
On Sept. 26, 2021, police say Lyons was working as a security guard at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino on Fremont Street when he was dispatched to a restaurant for a report that a man had created trouble, according to a report.
Lyons then found the man who allegedly caused the disturbance, identified as Lizano, in a valet area of the hotel, police said.
As Lyons approached Lizano, Lizano “forcefully and aggressively pushed” him, causing him to fall backwards, police said. Lyons’ head hit the pavement, knocking him out and causing bleeding, police said.
Paramedics took Lyon to a local hospital where it was determined he had a brain hemorrhage.
Lizano then fled. Hoping to find him, the Metro Police circulated photos of Lizano to area hotels and casinos.
Early the next morning, an officer recognized Lizano outside a business near Sahara Avenue and Paradise Road and arrested him. At the time, Lizano was facing charges of battery causing substantial bodily harm.
Lyons died of his injuries in hospital on Feb. 23, the Clark County Coroner’s Office announced Wednesday. His causes of death were listed as assault and blunt force injury to the head.
His manner of death was ruled a homicide. Prosecutors then turned the charges against Lizano into open murder. The load is increased due to the age of Lyon.
A day after her arrest, prosecutors also filed grand theft of a motor vehicle charges against Lizano. Details of the case were not available Wednesday.
Court records indicate that Lizano’s case was the subject of several jurisdictional hearings leading up to Tuesday’s indictment.
Due to his murder charge, Lizano was being held without the possibility of bail.
